Description
6 Almshouses is a former pair of cottages that has been converted into one house. The building dates from the 17th century, with alterations in the mid 19th century and the 20th century. It features an exposed timber frame with brick nogging, while the extension is made of flint with brick quoins. The thatched roof is hipped at the north end and connects to the tiled roof of the extension at the south end, with eaves raised above the dormers. Originally a timber-framed dwelling, it was later developed into a pair of cottages and then extended in the mid 19th century on the south side and in the 20th century on the north side. The structure has one storey and an attic, with two rows of four windows. The windows are casements, some of which have Gothic lights. There are two mid 19th century brick gabled porches, each with a tiled roof, Tudor doorways, plinths, and boarded doors in plain frames. A 20th century rear wing is located on the north side, featuring a hipped tile roof and brick walls.
