Description

This is a group of almshouses dating from the mid to late 19th century, located on the south-west side of Sussex Road. The complex comprises three bays, visible as three gables facing the road, with the central gable projecting slightly. The building has a high-pitched roof covered in fishscale tiles, set in bands with plain tiles, and features speared ridge tiles and two tall chimney stacks set within recessed areas. The walls are constructed of large knapped flints with black mortar, accented by red brick dressings, with a band defining the first-floor level. The windows are two-light casements with margin lights, and some have rounded bars across the heads. Plain doors are situated in the returns of the projecting central bay. A plaque is affixed to the centre gable, though its inscription is now unreadable.
