Description
Dean's Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 16th century, originally a timber-framed hall. In the 17th century, a fireplace, upper floors, and a staircase were added. Later, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, an extension was built, and the house was recladded. 20th-century restoration work has also been undertaken. The walls are constructed of malmstone, in two phases with galletting, with brick quoins and cambered arches. There are small areas of flint with brick dressings, brickwork, and the front wall is tile-hung in the upper part. The roof is tiled, hipped at the south end, with a catslide at the rear and four gabled dormers. The south-east front shows two phases of construction, with two storeys and 2.4 windows. The windows are casements and sashes, with one triple Victorian sash window. A 18th-century six-panelled door, with the two top panels glazed, is set in a plain opening. Inside, much of the original timber frame remains, illustrating the different construction phases. A plain, 17th-century dog-leg staircase is present.
