Description
Cowclose Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century and the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings and features plain tile roofs with plain gables, stone coped gables, and kneelers. The building has brick ridge stacks and a gable end stack and stands two storeys tall.
The north wing is a tall 17th-century block that is rendered on three sides. The north elevation has a 3-light chamfered mullion window on the left, followed by a single light window with a square section flush surround, and a similar 2-light window. Further to the right is a small 3-light recessed chamfered mullion window with two 19th-century diamond lights. On the first floor, there is a single light window with a flush square section surround next to a 3-light chamfered mullion window.
The early 19th-century south wing features a triple-gabled south elevation, with the central gable being lower and narrower. The central doorway has a raised stone surround and a projecting solid pediment. To the right of the door, there is a plain sash window with a stone sill and lintel, and a similar window above it. There is also a narrower window above the door and a narrow plain sash window to the left on the ground floor.
On the west elevation, the gabled part to the left has a 3-light chamfered mullion window and a 2-light square section flush mullion window above. To the right, the ground falls away, revealing a glazing bar sash window with a stone lintel and sill on the ground floor, and 19th-century casement windows above.
