Description
White Cottage is a pair of houses dated 1771, located on the west side of Market Square in Tideswell. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, featuring chamfered quoins and plain gables topped with brick ridge stacks. The roof is covered with concrete tiles.
The houses are two storeys high and consist of two bays, each with 2-light flush mullioned windows that have 19th-century glazing and bay casements. The ground floor windows include single glazing bars, and the heads and sills of the windows are connected by plain bands.
At the center, there are coupled doorways with massive stone surrounds and heavy lintels, all beneath a dripmould. The doors are plain and planked. Above the first floor, there is a plaque that connects the band courses, inscribed with "N JM 1772."
