Description
The tower, located approximately 20 yards north of Ilam Hall, is a Grade II listed structure dating from around 1830. It is likely the work of James Trubshawe, who also built the nearby Ilam Hall. The tower features rough faced ashlar stone with a hammer dressed ashlar plinth and steps. It has an octagonal plan and includes a flight of steps leading to a ground floor door with a Caernarvon arch head. Lancet loop windows are present on every other face at mid-height. A roll moulded string delineates the upper stage, which consists of alternating square panels featuring a blank shield and a cruciform loop. The tower is topped with crested eaves and an 8-sided dome made of fishscale work, capped by a ball finial.
