Description
The Church of St Hugh is a parish church built in 1880. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and features rusticated quoins on the porch. The roof is made of stone slate, with stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. A bellcote is situated on the south gable, and there is a ridge cross above the porch. The building has two bays and is a single storey, with a lower projecting south porch and a north chancel bay. The porch has a semi-circular headed doorcase with a plain hood, and there are semi-circular headed windows on either side of the porch. Above the porch, the south gable wall features an oval window in a flush surround. Each side of the nave has two large four-pane windows, while the chancel bay has rectangular windows with coloured glass. The interior is very simple, containing bench pews and a table altar located to the north. This church is included for its group value only.
