Description
This lamp standard, located in Rowsley on Bakewell Road, was erected in 1867. It is made of sandstone and cast iron, featuring a squared base with a curved top. The east side is inscribed with a memorial message that reads, "As a memorial of God's loving kindness during fifty years residence in this house." The standard has a tapering square shaft that stands about six feet tall, with chamfered angles that are stopped at both the bottom and the top, creating broaches with tapered-in sides. There is a metal plaque on the east side that states, "Erected by John Holmes 1867," along with a repeat of the earlier inscription. At the top, it is surmounted by a cast iron lamp with scrolled sides. This lamp standard is included for its group value only.
