Description
Hillsdale Hall is a farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble with flush ashlar quoins and features a clay tile roof with coped verges. The building has a large central ashlar ridge stack with diagonal shafts. It has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a two-room front with a gable end crosswing to the right, and the entrance is located to the left of the left-hand cell.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic and has 3-light chamfered mullioned windows that have rebated surrounds, containing casements. The ground floor windows are larger and are not symmetrically arranged; the left-hand window on the ground floor is displaced by the doorway, while the right-hand ground and first-floor windows are set to the right of the centre line. The attic window is centrally positioned in the gable. There is a plain door to the left with a heavy lintel and a straight dripstone. This building is a good example of a mid 17th century yeoman farmer's house.
