Description
Oxclose Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is built of coursed and squared rubble with ashlar dressings, topped by a clay tile roof. There is a brick ridge stack located to the right of the center and an ashlar integral end stack of circular section.
Originally, the farmhouse was a single range building consisting of two rooms, but it was extended to the northeast in the 18th or 19th century, and a kitchen wing was added to the rear, likely in the 19th century. The building has two storeys, though differences in the stonework suggest it originally had one storey with a gable-lit attic.
The fenestration is asymmetrical, featuring four windows on the ground floor and two on the first floor. On the ground floor, to the left of center, there is an early 17th-century four-light chamfered mullioned window, flanked by an early 17th-century single-light window on each side. All three windows have rebated surrounds and straight hood moulds. To the left of center on the first floor, there is a three-light chamfered mullioned window, probably from the late 17th century. On the right side, both floors have a two-light casement. A 20th-century board door is located to the right of center, leading into the right-hand room.
