Description
The wall along the south side of Little Hill, located at the rear of St John's Hospital, dates back to the 18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with gritstone quoins and copings, standing approximately 2 meters high. This wall runs along the east side of Church Alley, connecting the rear-left corner of St John's Hospital on South Church Street to the corner with Little Hill. The wall continues down the south side of Little Hill, where it joins the side wall of the steps on the right return of The Old Town Hall on King Street. The section along Church Alley features a studded door with gritstone jambs and a lintel made from elongated half-round coping, while the section on Little Hill is taller and includes a blocked doorway.
