Description
The guide pillar, dated 1740, is located at the junction with Mortimer Road on the south side. It is made of gritstone and stands 3 feet high, featuring a rhombic section with a chamfered top edge. The east face is inscribed with the year 1740, while the north face displays the inscription "PENISTON," with the letter "N" inscribed backwards. The west face reads "HOPE," and the south face includes the inscriptions "SHEFFIELD" and "BRADFIELD," along with direction arrows and a benchmark on the south face.
