Description
Nigel Griffiths Furniture Workshop is a shop and furniture workshop that was originally built as a cheese factory in 1875. The building is constructed from coursed squared rock-faced limestone, with rock-faced gritstone dressings and quoins, and features a slate roof with gritstone gable end stacks. It is two storeys high and has a five-bay front.
On the west elevation, the northernmost lower bay contains a glazing bar sash window and a door with a bracketed flat stone hood and a plank door. Above this, there is a similar window. To the south, at floor level, there is a stone inscribed 'This stone was laid by Teresa C Chandos Pole Gell, Hopton Hall. March 20th 1875'. Further along, there are three similar doorcases with plank doors. The southernmost door has a window on either side; the window to the south is a glazing bar sash, while the one to the north has 20th-century fenestration. Above these doors, there are four glazing bar sash windows. The building is listed for its historical interest as an early purpose-built cheese factory.
