Description
The Bill family memorial canopy and railings, located approximately 10 yards east of the chancel of the Church of St. Peter, date from around 1850. This memorial consists of a chest tomb made of ashlar, featuring panelled sides, a moulded base and cornice, and a stepped cap topped with a statue of a mourning female on a cylindrical column. The tomb is covered by a square canopy with round arched open sides, a moulded cornice, and a concave sided cap with a finial. It is enclosed by cast iron railings and a gate, which include fleur-de-lys interspersed with spears and are supported by dog-leg stanchions. The memorial bears inscriptions for Sarah Bill, who died in 1853; Robert Bill, who died in 1848; Mary Bill, who died in 1852; and Constantia Walton Bill, whose date of death is illegible.
