Description

This is a milepost located 800 yards south of Peakshill Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of hollow cast iron and has a triangular shape with a dished top. The southwest face displays the distances to Sheffield (19 miles), Hathersage (9 miles), and Castleton (3 miles). The northeast face indicates that Sparrowpit is 2 miles away. This milepost marked a route that was part of the Sheffield to Manchester Turpike until around 1817.
