Description

Ivy House is a house that dates from the late 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone, featuring gritstone dressings and quoins. The original 17th-century part of the house has a stone slate roof, which is topped with a large central ridge stack and has moulded stone copings and kneelers at the gable ends. The later additions have plain tile roofs, with stone-coped northern gables that include plain kneelers and a stone gable end stack on the central section.

The house is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with a lower single bay addition from the 18th century to the north and another lower single bay addition from the 19th century beyond that. The east elevation, which was originally the main front, is now partly below ground level. It features a central chamfered flush quoined doorcase that is now blocked, flanked by 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows on either side. Above these, there are two similar windows and a blocked central single light window. The northern addition has a blocked flush doorcase, a single light window to the south, and a 2-light flush mullion window to the north, with a central 3-light flush mullion window above.

All the windows in the house are either two-pane casements or fixed lights. The west elevation of the 19th-century addition includes a flush doorcase with a panelled door and a plain sash window in a flush surround above. To the south, the 18th-century addition features a 19th-century canted bay window with plain sashes, along with a plain sash window above and a single light window to the south.
