Description
Sewingshields Farmhouse is an early 19th-century house built from squared stone with tooled and margined raised quoins and ashlar dressings. It features a stone slate roof with stone-coped gables that have kneelers, along with a stone stack on the left gable and a brick stack on the right gable. The house is two storeys high and has three symmetrical windows, with a slightly set back rendered extension on the right. The windows are 16-pane sashes with slightly projecting sills, although the central ground floor sash has been renewed. The right section includes a flush-panelled door with a 4-pane fanlight set in a chamfered stone surround, along with a 20th-century glazed porch. The rear elevation is made of squared rubble, which has been re-used from the Roman Wall, and features a small wing and outshuts with various openings.
