Description
Hadrian's Wall, including milecastles 30, 31, 34, and 35, as well as turrets 29B, 30A, 30B, 33B, 34A, and 35A, dates back to AD 122 and was reconstructed in AD 205. The structure features a rubble core with dressed stone faces. The wall runs through two sections of Simonburn parish: from near Black Carts Farm to Brocolita Roman Fort, and from near Shield on the Wall to Sewingshields Crags. There are several well-preserved sections of wall masonry that stand between 1.0 to 1.5 metres high. Remains of milecastles 30 and 35 and turret 35A are present, while the other milecastles and turrets are represented by their sites. These structures are designated as Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
