Description
This icehouse, dating from the early 19th century, is located approximately 300 yards east of Biddlestone Chapel. It is constructed of ashlar and built into a steep bank, featuring a retaining wall and a square porch.
Inside, a short passage with three right-angled turns leads to the ice chamber, which is square and about 15 feet deep. The chamber has a tunnel-vaulted roof and offsets at regular intervals along the sides, which once supported wooden shelves for holding ice. Additionally, there is a trap door in the vault, covered by a massive stone slab, that provided further access.
