Description
Lumley House is a farmhouse dated 1777, although it is likely older and was remodeled at that time. It is constructed of coursed tooled sandstone and features a pantiled roof with stone stacks, copings, and kneelers. The building has a hearth-passage plan and stands 2½ storeys tall with three bays on the entrance front. The left part of the house is 1½ storeys and contains a passage door with a very roughly carved dated lintel. The main block has a central stair window, a 2-light stone-mullioned window at the top right, and an enlarged later window below it, along with two early 19th-century sash windows and three small modern casements.
The garden front displays two 3-light chamfered mullioned windows on each floor, although the left window on the ground floor is blocked. There is also a small light under the eaves. In the lower right part of the house, which appears older and may serve as a kitchen or dairy, there is a 3-light mullioned window with a head rebated for shutters. On the left return, there is a boarded 20th-century door with a small light to the left, and above it, a 2-light stone-mullioned window.
