Description
Gilroy House is a mid-19th century house and shop located on the west side of Fylingdales New Road in Robin Hood's Bay. The building is constructed from coursed tooled sandstone and features a pantiled roof with stone copings and kneelers. It stands three storeys tall with a high basement and has three bays.
In the basement, there is a wide double shop front typical of the 19th century, consisting of two and three lights with an off-centre door. Steps with a modern handrail lead up to a wooden balcony of the house above. The central entrance features a four-panel door with arched top panels and an overlight in a plain surround. To the left, there is a 16-pane sash window, while to the right is a canted bay window from around 1900, which has glazing bars in the upper sashes and a moulded cornice.
On the first floor, there are 16-pane sash windows flanking a 12-pane centre sash window. The second floor has shorter 12-pane casements flanking a 9-pane window. All windows have tooled lintels and projecting sills.
