Description
This house, located south of Fisherman's Cottage in Robin Hood's Bay, dates from around 1700 and has undergone some alterations. It is constructed from very lightly tooled, unevenly-coursed sandstone, with the lower courses being thicker. The basement is rendered, and the roof is a renewed pantile with stone kneelers and a ridge stack.
The building has three storeys and a basement, featuring two bays on the gable end facing the road. The windows include a modern basement window, a 12-pane sash on the ground floor, a very small 4-pane sash in a chamfered opening on the first floor, and two 6-pane sashes in lengthened older openings on the second floor. There is a stack at the peak of the gable.
The entrance front is on the left return, which has a 6-panel door set in a doorcase with reeded pilasters and an open-pedimented hood. Above the door is a shaped stone lintel with the initials E and AS. To the right of the door, there is a wide 28-pane fixed light with a small off-centre opening section. On the first floor, the right side features a casement window set in an old chamfered opening, while the left side has a 16-pane sash and a 12-pane sash above. There are also traces of earlier, shorter openings.
