Description
Thistle Grove Farmhouse and barn extension is a farmhouse that has been converted into two houses, dating from the 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone and features pantiled roofs, with the left part recently renewed in concrete pantiles. The building has stone copings and curved kneelers, along with a rebuilt brick chimney on the left and a corniced stone chimney on the right.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has two bays, with the left part being irregular in shape. The original door has been filled in, and a new door has been added in the lower two-storey extension, which is mainly used as a barn. The right part of the building is symmetrical, featuring 16-pane windows with opening centre sections and a half-glazed door. There are pent and gabled rear extensions.
Inside, there is a partly-filled inglenook with a slightly chamfered beam and a small cupboard, along with a small fixed light behind. The roof is notable for its coupled principals and two levels of butt purlins, all of which are chamfered and show clear carpenters' marks. The dog-leg staircase is missing its lower balusters.
