Description

The Chapel of St John, also known as Eskdale Chapel, is a ruinous structure dating from the 13th century or earlier. It is built from squared sandstone resting on a chamfered plinth. The chapel features a continuous nave and chancel, with traceable remains of a roll-moulded south door. The west wall is the most intact, surviving to a greater height and containing remnants of a chamfered window opening. Only irregular fragments of the north and east walls remain above the plinth level.
