Description
Carr View Hall is a small country house, now used as a residential home for the elderly, dating to the early 19th century with alterations and an extension in the later 19th century. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar to the front, with the remainder of the building using bordered, herringbone-tooled sandstone. The main roof is of stone slate, while the rear wing has a mix of stone slate and Welsh slate. The building is arranged in an L-shape. The main front has two storeys and five bays, articulated with pilasters on a low plinth. The windows on the main front are 12-pane sashes with stone sills. A raised first floor band and moulded eaves cornice run along the top, returning at each end. A panelled parapet, stepped up above the three centre bays with flat coping, sits above. The roof is hipped with end stacks rising from the base. A round-headed staircase window, with an arch of shaped voussoirs, is located on the rear elevation. The left return has two storeys and an attic, with four windows. A projecting porch, centrally located on the right, contains a six-panel door with an overlight. Ground floor windows to the left of the porch, and first floor windows, are 12-pane sashes, with windows blind at first floor right. Two unequal nine-pane sashes light the attic. All windows have plain stone sills. An attic band runs along the top, topped by a high flat parapet, ramped up at each end to mask the roof. Inside, the open-string dogleg staircase has concave stick balusters and a moulded handrail, wreathed at the foot. A segmental arch, supported on panelled Corinthian pilasters, divides the staircase hall. First floor doors and shutters are of rebated raised and fielded panelling.
