Description

This is a milepost located approximately 225 metres to the west of the track to Gormire Lake, dating from the late 19th century. It was made for the North Riding County Council Highways Department. The milepost is constructed from cast iron and has a triangular-sectioned hollow-backed design with a sloping top plate. The raised letters on the top read "NRYCC," while the left face indicates "THIRSK/5" and the right face shows "HELMSLEY/9."
