Description

Byland Abbey consists of the ruins of an abbey church and monastic buildings, dating from the late 12th century, early 13th century, and 15th century. The structure is built from limestone ashlar and rubble. The substantial remains of the church include a west front that stands almost to full height. The ruins of the monastic buildings reach a height of approximately 5 meters in some areas. For more detailed descriptions, refer to the Department of the Environment guidebook.
