Description

Oldstead Hall is a house that consists of three building phases. It was originally built in the late 18th century, with a mid-19th century wing added and a 20th century entrance lobby at the rear. The structure is made of limestone ashlar, featuring some herringbone tooling, and has a stone slate roof. The house has two parallel ranges under an M-shaped roof, with the Victorian wing on the right and the entrance lobby at the back.

The building is two storeys high and has six first floor windows, with three bays on the left section and a canted bay on the right section. The left section features a 15-panel door with an overlight above it. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, all set beneath keyed stone lintels. There is a stepped eaves course, gable coping, a shaped kneeler, and a stack on the left, while a ridge stack is located on the right. The right section also has sashes with glazing bars, and the first floor includes 9-pane unequal sashes. Channelled wedge lintels with chisel tooling are present throughout. The canted bay has a pyramidal roof and an end stack.

Inside, there is an open string staircase with alternate column-on-vase and barleysugar balusters. Additionally, a set of four medieval corbels is built into the rear of the 18th century range.
