Description
The goods shed at Goathland Station was built around 1865 for the North-Eastern Railway Company. It is constructed from rockfaced sandstone and features a slate roof. The building is two stories high with a three-bay front that is positioned against the station platform embankment. The main entrance consists of full-height double board doors set beneath a segmental arch made of voussoirs, which was originally covered by a pent canopy. On either side of the doors, there are 16-pane fixed lights with stone sills and bordered rusticated lintels on the first floor. The eaves overhang, and there is a cornice-banded stack at the right end, located at the base of the pitched roof.
On the platform side, the shed has a one-story, three-bay front. Double board doors have been inserted into the original window opening at the left end. To the right, there are two 16-pane fixed windows with stone sills and bordered rusticated lintels. The left and right returns of the building feature full-height round-arched openings in each return wall, with the opening at the northern end being blocked.
