Description

Riddings Farmhouse is a longhouse that possibly dates back to the late 17th century. The roof was raised, and a barn was converted into living quarters in the late 18th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared roughly-tooled sandstone and features a pantiled roof with a stone ridge, gable copings, kneelers, and stacks. It has two storeys with four windows, along with a later one-bay stable extension on the right, which is now used as an office.

At the front, there is a gabled porch that leads to the original passage entrance, and a new pent porch has been added to the right extension. The doors are boarded on the inner returns, and there are small windows at the front. One of the windows is a three-light Yorkshire sash, while the others are modern small-paned casements. To the right of the porch, there is a chamfered fire window. The kneelers are plain-curved, and there are two chimneys: one in the original position behind the fire window and another at the left end, both of which are of the 18th-century corniced type.

Inside, there is a stone heck partition that remains in place, although the fire beam has been replaced. The main beam is chamfered with sharp stops, and the joists are also chamfered. Other slightly later beams are of good scantling. In the converted barn section, there is an 18th-century dado rail and panelled cupboards.
