Description
The memorial fountain and troughs, located approximately 15 meters north of Number 2 Morehead Terrace in Easington, were erected in 1873. This drinking fountain is made of dressed sandstone and features a lion mask water spout set in a trefoil-headed niche beneath an ornamented gable. The gable is adorned with three roundels that bear the initials "M.L.C.", "M.G.M.", and "K.L.M." The fountain has a semicircular basin supported by a foliate stem, flanked by semicircular troughs and curved walls that display a long inscription, which is now partly illegible. The round end piers are topped with crenellated caps that hold ball finials. There are leaning rectangular glinters beyond the ends of the structure. Two mid-20th century concrete steps lead up to the drinking fountain. This memorial was established in memory of the Rev. Dr. Morehead and his wife, Margaret, by their five sisters and granddaughters.
