Description

Westfield Cottage is an early to mid-18th century house with later alterations. It features a cruck frame encased in coursed sandstone rubble, topped with a pantile roof and a brick stack. The cottage is one-and-a-half storeys high, with a two-window front, and has a single-storey lean-to outbuilding attached to the left. A central 20th-century door, flanked by two small-pane, horizontal sliding sash windows with painted stone sills, is visible on the front. Two raking dormers with similar windows are set into the attic. The door has a thin timber lintel, and the ground floor windows have grooved wedge lintels. An end stack is located on the left side. According to reports, thatch was preserved beneath the pantiles. The North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study Group documented the building in 1974 (Report No H888).
