Description

Stone Cottage is a house dating to the late 18th century, with an outshut raised and a rear extension added around 1950. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble, with a pantile roof and a brick stack. It has a single-cell, direct-entry plan, supplemented by the outshut and rear extension. The front elevation features two low storeys and a single window. A 20th-century board door with a glazed light is positioned to the right of a two-light, small-pane, horizontal-sliding sash window; a similar smaller window is above. Timber lintels are present above all openings. An end stack is located on the right-hand side. Inside, the front room contains an early 19th-century fireplace with pulvinated jambs and lintel, along with paterae. The ground floor features chamfered square section beams, including stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. A plank door with an original timber bolt leads to the rear, and an H-L hinge is visible on a cupboard located under the stairs.
