Description
Plane Tree Farmhouse and the adjoining barn date from around 1700. They are constructed from large coursed squared sandstone on a plinth, with a pantiled roof featuring stone copings and kneelers, and brick stacks. Each structure is 1½ storeys high and consists of 2 bays. The house has an entrance in a recently-built front extension, which is not of special interest. The ground floor features Yorkshire sash windows, with the right window set in a chamfered surround, while there is a double-hung sash window on the first floor to the right. The barn has two boarded doors and both buildings have steeply-pitched roofs. The chimneys are located on the ridge and at the right end of the house. The left side of the house shows one modern and one 19th-century casement window.
Inside, the farmhouse has old beams of stout scantling and parallel stout joists. There is a good pair of upper crucks that rest on a tie beam at the ground floor, with a top collar supporting through-purlins and a short king-post with a ridge piece. The purlins are chamfered, and the lower collar has been removed in the center to provide additional headroom.
