Description
The dovecote and barn, located approximately 400 metres southeast of Thimbleby Hall, date from the late 18th century. The dovecote is an octagonal, two-storey structure made of ashlar stone, with a partly rendered exterior and a hipped roof covered in Welsh slate. It features a plinth, a doorway with a plain surround, and is flanked by thin rectangular openings. There is a first-floor band and frieze, with a large round-headed blind opening on the first floor, accompanied by slightly smaller similar openings. The eaves have a decorative band, and the roof is topped with a ball finial. Inside, the dovecote retains nesting boxes made from terracotta tiles.
The barn is rendered with ashlar dressings and has quoins. It includes a central boarded door, which is closely flanked by square window openings, all set in quoined surrounds. The barn also features an eaves band and a roof covered in pantiles.
