Description
The Hollow is a cottage located in Boldre, likely built in the 18th century. It was refenestrated in the 19th century and restored in the 20th century. The cottage is made of rendered cob and features a thatched roof. The roof is gabled on the east side and hipped on the west, with a brick chimney stack at the eastern end. It has one storey and attics, with an irregular arrangement of 19th-century casement windows.
The south entrance front includes an eyebrow dormer, a single 19th-century casement window, and a triangular buttress at the southeast corner. There is a central 20th-century timber-framed porch with brick infill and a plank door. The west elevation does not have any windows but features a triangular buttress. The rear, or north elevation, has two 19th-century casement windows. To the left of the cottage is a thatched garage of modern construction, which is not considered of special interest.
The Hollow is recognized as a traditional two-bay end chimneystack cottage in the New Forest, notable for its rendered cob construction and thatched roof.
