Description
Newtown Park is a medium-sized country house built in the 18th century, with the front range dating to around 1790. It was restored and remodeled in 1960. The house is constructed of stuccoed brick and has a slate roof. It features two storeys above a basement, with an 11 by 2 bay main range from 1790, situated behind an earlier 8 by 4 bay building. At one end of the main block, there is a mid-20th century single storey service range that replaced an earlier service building.
The entrance front showcases a central five-bay full-sized Ionic portico, which has a modillioned architrave leading to a pediment and a semicircular window in the middle. Behind the portico is a full-height recess containing a stone doorcase with double doors and sash windows on either side and above. Each side of the entrance has three bays with sash windows and a cornice above a panelled parapet. On the right-hand end, there is a full-height canted bay with sash windows on each face. The hipped roof is concealed by a parapet. On the left-hand end, the service range features a door in the bay next to the main block and two sash windows.
Before the 1960 restoration, there was a columned belvedere in the center, and the front elevation had parapet stacks, resulting in some blind window openings and glazing bars on the sashes. Photographs of the house can be found in the National Monuments Record.
