Description
The Church of St Mary is an Anglican church built in 1818 and extended in 1858. It has a rendered exterior and a Welsh slate roof with coped gable ends. The church features a cruciform plan, comprising a nave, a small chancel, two large transepts, and an entrance porch within a small tower at the west end of the nave. On either side of the chancel, there are small lean-to structures; the south side contains the vestry, while the north side houses an outhouse. The 1858 extension added the chancel and transepts in the same Gothic style.
The exterior showcases tall lancet windows with hoodmoulds and leaded lattice panes, along with tripartite lancets at the east end and in the transept gables. A slender west tower projects from the west gable end of the nave, featuring convex re-entrants, a pointed arch doorway, a very small lancet, and a clock above. The belfry has lancet windows, but the small spire is missing. The vestry on the south side has a small square extension clad in corrugated iron with a pyramidal slate roof, while the outbuilding on the north side is also a lean-to.
Inside, the church has plastered walls and ceilings. The chancel arch is a wooden fretwork structure supported by small brackets, with script painted on the pointed arch and pierced trefoil spandrels. There is a panelled reredos with pinnacles, a panelled octagonal pulpit, a brass eagle lectern, and an organ. The benches from the 1858 extension remain intact.
