Description

The Weecott is a cottage, now serving as an outbuilding, dating from the 18th century. It has been added to and altered over time. The structure is made of rendered cob with a thatched roof. Originally, it was one and a half storeys with one bay, but there is an early addition on the left side and a further single-storey bay addition to the left. The entrance features a board door protected by a late 20th-century open porch with thatch, which has a one-light window to the left and a two-light window to the right, both with tile sills. The upper floor is illuminated by an eyebrow dormer that contains a two-light, eight-pane casement window. There is a stack at the right end of the building, and the roof is hipped on the left, sloping down low over the first addition.

On the rear, the main block displays an unrendered cob wall set on a brick plinth, with the central section featuring replacement brickwork. This wall was formerly protected by a lean-to that has since been removed, leaving a groove for the former upper edge of thatching and chopped-off timber ends. At the junction with the first addition, there is a wany post on a cobble plinth with a brace to the wall plate, and another post to the left of a small-pane two-light window. The walling to the right has been renewed in breeze block. The left return features a mid-20th-century small-pane two-light window and a gable made of corrugated iron. Inside, there are crude joists and purlins. Given its location at the edge of the common and in a concealing hollow, it is possible that this building was originally constructed as a squatters cottage.
