Description
The stables and coachhouse block of Loperwood Manor, now part of Thatchbury Mount Hospital, date from the mid-19th century, with a minor extension added in the 20th century. The walls are made of painted brickwork in Flemish bond, featuring a plinth, rusticated corners, a moulded band at the first floor, moulded eaves with brick dentils, cambered arches, and stone cills on brackets. The hipped slate roof tops the building.
The southwest front is symmetrical, with projecting ends and a central section, and is two storeys high. It has a configuration of 1.1.3.1.1 above 2.1.2 arch windows. The centerpiece features a gable above a blind arch, and the original carriage opening has been altered to create two doorways, which are cambered. The windows are sashes set in reveals. In contrast, the north elevation lacks symmetry and projections, displaying irregular fenestration. Above the centre of the building, there is a clock turret with an open arcade supported by eight short columns, topped by a plain hipped roof.
