Description

This is a barn dating from the early to mid-17th century, with later alterations. It is located 4 metres south east of Croft House and an attached barn in Mungrisdale. The barn is constructed of rubble masonry and has a roof of diminishing green sand slate. The walls appear to have been raised, possibly in the 19th century. A porch provides vehicular access on the south side. A small doorway with a wooden lintel is situated on the roadside, and otherwise the only openings are simple ventilation slots. The interior has four bays, featuring three full cruck trusses with saddle and halved collars. Two of these trusses originally had, or retain, ties; one tie is missing, and the third has small spurs. The carpentry throughout is pegged.
