Description

Steelfield Hall is a large house, now functioning as an Old People's Home, built around 1840 for Sir Humphrey Senhouse, with later additions and alterations. The exterior features incised stucco and a hipped roof covered with graduated slate. The building has a U-shaped plan and presents a symmetrical two-storey, five-bay front, arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern.

At the center, there is a large panelled double door flanked by tall sash windows, all set within a tetrastyle Greek Doric portico. Each projecting bay on the ground floor has a large sash window, while the first floor contains four sashes with sill bands. All sash windows include glazing bars and have stucco pedimented heads. The building has a chamfered plinth, bands between the floors and at the eaves, and a cornice that supports a blocking course featuring antefixae at the angles and a blank shield within a central pedimented frame. A central chimney completes the structure.
