Description

Penny Bridge is a bridge over the River Crake, dating from the 16th century, as noted in the Victoria County History of Lancashire, Volume VIII. It underwent widening in the late 18th century or early 19th century, or it may have been rebuilt during that time. The bridge features stone rubble with later coursed rubble parapets. It has three wide segmental arches, each with low triangular cutwaters on both sides. The straight parapets are topped with upright coping stones. Part of the bridge is located in Colton civil parish.
