Description

The Farmer's Arms Public House is a 17th-century building that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is constructed of roughcast stone and features slate roofs. The original short 17th-century range is complemented by longer ranges at right angles to the northwest and southeast, with late 20th-century wings to the north that are of no special interest.

The building is two storeys high. The northwest range has a south elevation with four bays; the first two bays feature a gallery under a pentice, supported by low timber-framed walling. There is a 3-light wooden-chamfered-mullioned window in the third bay, with a similar window above it. The entrance is located in a lean-to porch, which has a casement window above it, and the windows feature leaded glazing. The older part of the building includes a casement window with a gabled dormer above, which has a 4-light casement. The east elevation is similar, with later single-storey extensions, and a large cross-axial stack with rounded shafts.

The southeast range consists of four bays, with two casement windows and two entrances on the ground floor, and three sashed windows with glazing bars along with a small casement on the first floor. It features gable-end and cross-axial stacks. Inside, the building has chamfered beams and a wide-boarded door that is held together with wooden pegs and strap hinges.
