Description
Tottlebank Baptist Chapel is a chapel built around 1750, with alterations and additions from the 19th century. It is constructed of roughcast stone and has a slate roof. The building is one storey high and consists of seven bays. The first two bays serve as a schoolroom, which was added in 1864, while the end bay functions as a vestry. The chapel features segmental-headed windows with small-paned glazing and coloured glass margin lights. There are segmental-headed entrances located between the second and third bays and the sixth and seventh bays, each with paired two-panel doors. A gable-end stack is positioned at the right-hand end, and the roof is hipped at the left-hand end. The rear of the chapel includes a two-bay gabled transept and a gabled wing with a stack for the schoolroom. Inside, there is a 19th-century pulpit and altar rail with turned balusters located at the centre of the wall opposite the transept, along with 19th-century pews, which are sloped in the transept area. The congregation was formed in 1669, making it the oldest Baptist church in the historic county of Lancashire.
