Description
Whale Cottage and the adjoining barn are a farmhouse and barn dating from the mid-18th century. They are constructed from mixed sandstone rubble walls, which are partly painted and rendered. The building features a graduated greenslate roof, coped to the right, with stone chimney stacks that are partly rendered. The structure is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with the barn on the left having a slightly higher roof line.
The central entrance of the cottage has a 20th-century door set in a painted stone surround. The windows are casement style, set in original plain reveals. The barn includes an off-centre segmental cart entrance, with a door on the left and 20th-century casement windows on the right, both in 20th-century openings. Inside the house, beamed ceilings are retained. The property is listed for its group value with Whale Cottage.
