Description

Lowside Farmhouse and the attached barn date from the early 18th century, with later additions. The barn features an ex-situ date stone that reads 'I & EL/1642'. The building is constructed of stone rubble, while the farmhouse is roughcast, both topped with slate roofs.

The south elevation of the farmhouse has two storeys and three bays, with the third bay added later. The first two bays include a drip course raised over a window and the gable of a removed porch. The ground floor features a single-chamfered-mullioned window with small-paned glazing and a sash window, while the first floor has sashes in what were once two-light windows. The third bay has sashed windows with glazing bars and chamfered jambs. The entrance to the second bay has chamfered reveals and a half-glazed door. Gable-end stacks are present.

A small connecting block to the west links the farmhouse to the barn. The east elevation of the barn has a segmental-headed entrance that is partially blocked, along with the ex-situ date stone. The east return features a lean-to outshut. The north elevation has an outshut under a cat-slide roof, along with a later 20th-century outshut and a gabled wing that includes a gable-end stack. The west elevation of the barn has a segmental-headed entrance and an addition at the north end that features a lateral stack. There are also sashed windows with glazing bars next to the entrance.
