Description

The barn and stable attached to Forest Side Cottage in Grasmere dates from the 18th century, with a 19th-century addition. It is constructed of rubble stone, which is rendered at the front, and features a stone slate roof with a stone stack at the rear. The front has two 20th-century double doors and a boarded opening above. To the right, there is a gabled 19th-century wing that includes an 8/8 sash window, complete with hood-moulds on both the ground and first floors. The rear of the building is of greater interest, as it has seen very little alteration; it features a central barn doorway that is now partly blocked and two loop ventilators. This structure is included for its group value only.
