Description
Forest Side Cottage is a 17th century building located in Grasmere. It is constructed of white-washed stone rubble and features a slate roof, standing two storeys tall. The cottage has a gabled porch that includes inner side benches. There are three square sash windows on the ground floor and four above, with slate dripstones above the lower windows. Inside, the cottage contains spice cupboards and a court cupboard that is dated 1704. Historically, it served as a smithy and the ostlers' house for the Swan Hotel, which was a horse-changing stage.
