Description

High Nook Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations and additions from the 18th and 20th centuries. It features roughcast walls beneath a graduated greenslate roof, complemented by brick and roughcast chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays. A 20th-century gabled porch with a plank door is present at the front. The windows are a mix of 20th-century casement and Yorkshire-sash types, all with glazing bars set in original chamfered surrounds. The upper-floor windows show signs of previously removed flat mullions, while those on the ground floor are sheltered by a continuous slate hood. The right bay has larger windows with plain reveals, and the ground-floor window here is under a thicker slate hood, indicating it may have been an addition or originally part of a stable. At the rear, there is an outshut with three builds, featuring a right-side two-light flat stone-mullioned window. Inside, the farmhouse has flagged floors, an 18th-century inserted fireplace with a panelled overmantel, flanking panelled cupboards, and a shell niche, as well as 18th-century stone stairs. The adjoining barns are not of interest.
